Amanda Smyth is Irish Trinidadian. Her first novel, Black Rock (Serpent’s Tail) won the Prix du Premier Roman Etranger, was nominated for an NAACP award, short listed for McKitterick Prize, Waterstones New Voices, and selected as an Oprah Winfrey Summer Read. Her second novel, A Kind of Eden, (Serpent’s Tail) set in contemporary Trinidad, was optioned as a TV series with Ringside Film and Television Co, and is in development with Prodigal Film and TV Co. Fortune, (Peepal Tree Press) based on the tragic Dome fire in Trinidad in 1928, was shortlisted for Walter Scott Prize 2022. Look at You was published by Peepal Tree Press in 2025. The audio book read by Hayley Atwell, will be released in September 2026. Amanda teaches Creative Writing at Arvon, and Skyros, Greece and worked with Royal Literary Fund as Fellow at Exeter College Oxford, and as a Reading Round facilitator.
