David Wright was one of the three original trustees for HHT from 1995-2007. He is currently a Co-director of Commission Projects, a leading visual arts consultancy based in the east of England.
Over twenty-five years, he has been responsible for the development of numerous public visual arts policies/projects, establishing precedents for art in the public realm.
As Director of City Gallery Arts Trust in Milton Keynes (1984-92) he commissioned many of the arts projects for the new city. He then founded Commissions East in Cambridge and during its twenty year existence, produced over 30 public art policies for a diverse range of public and private organisations. Together with Commission Projects which he subsequently founded (2002), he has been responsible for over 250 public art programmes regionally and nationally. Notable projects include the ten year public art programmes for CBI (Cambridge) and the University of Cambridge’s New Museum Site, Fakenham Town Centre and Cromer Seafront regeneration and Norwich town centre.
David Wright is committed to extending the potential for art in the public realm and has led research projects that have influenced public art activity. These have included Quadratura, which was an early artist/architect collaboration, Art U Need (with Bob and Roberta Smith), Fleet with Gavin Turk that developed a cultural tourism programme linking the UK with Europe, and Untrue Island, which examined the potential for cross art form collaboration. He was also a founder of the Public Art Forum, a member the Arts Council South’s visual arts panel and an adviser to the Milton Keynes Foundation. He is based in East Anglia but operates country wide and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
David agreed to become an Honorary Fellow of the Trust in 2018, having served as a trustee for 15 years.
