Before applying for a residency at Church Cottage please refer to our Purposes and Policy page which explains our criteria for appointing writers and artists.
Most of our residencies are for one or two months and not less than two weeks or more than three months. An individual may return up to three times. Church Cottage is ideal for single occupancy but we occasionally host couples, too. Pets are welcome.
You can apply for a residency by email. The current deadline for applications is 31st March 2025.
For writers’ residencies please email Sarah Hosking at Sarahhosking@btinternet.com
For artists’ residencies please email Louise Campbell at L.E.M.Campbell@warwick.ac.uk
When emailing us, please put ‘Hosking Houses Trust application’ in the email subject line and ensure your application includes the following information:
- a brief account of the project on which you intend to work during a residency
- why you are applying
- your preferred length of residency and dates
- a recent Curriculum Vitae including your contact details and current postal address. N.B. a link to a personal website is NOT sufficient
- two referees, one of whom should be an agent/publisher/gallerist
- details of particular (or any special) needs
Financial support
While Church Cottage costs are fully covered and occupancy is free, further help depends on our financial circumstances. We have previously given personal bursaries, but this depends upon funding achieved which is currently less reliable than formerly.
Final note We are a tiny organisation staffed by volunteers. Please do not apply if you do not fulfil our criteria and do not send books or manuscripts, or ask us to find you an agent or publisher as we won’t be able to help you!
Find out about our previous residents
We have had the pleasure of welcoming, on average, nine women residents per year to Church Cottage since 2002. Click on the links below to learn more about our residents.
